Held up in between two human fingers, this amazing two-headed African Spurred Tortoise is a rare sight to behold - and even evolutionist Charles Darwin would struggle to explain its unique deformity.

Delicate, precious and tiny, this pair, who have been handed two names - Madga (left head) and Lenka - are only seven weeks' old.

The duo, born in Slovenia in mind November, also have five legs (one more than normal) and were displayed in Zilina today.

Although the tortoise looks small now, it should grow much, much bigger. In fact, the species are the third largest in the world, after Darwin's friends, the Galapagos Tortoise, and the Aldabra Giant Turtle.

The Mecca Clock, which Riyadh says is the world's largest, has four faces measuring 43 metres in diameter.

"The Holy Mecca Clock started with the order of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud ... one minute after 12am this morning, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan," Saudi state news agency SPA said.

Over 90 million pieces of coloured glass mosaic embellish the sides of the clock, which has four faces each bearing a large inscription of the name "Allah." It is visible from all corners of the city, the state news agency said.

The clock tower is the landmark feature of the seven-tower King Abdulaziz Endowment hotel complex, being built by the private Saudi Binladen Group, which will have the largest floor area of any building in the world when it is complete. Local media have said the clock tower project cost US$3 billion (NZ$4.2 billion).

The clock is positioned on a 601-metre tower, which will become the second tallest inhabited building in the world when it is completed in three months' time.

"Because it based in front of the holy mosque the whole Islamic world will refer to Mecca time instead of Greenwich. The Mecca clock will become a symbol to all Muslims," said Hashim Adnan, a resident of nearby Jeddah who frequently visits Mecca.
The project is part of efforts to modernize the old city and make it more capable of catering to pilgrims. Around 2 million Muslims visit the city each year for the annual Haj pilgrimage, a once-in-a-lifetime requirement for able-bodied Muslims, and 3.5 million pilgrims visit Mecca at other times of the year.
While many in Saudi Arabia are celebrating the clock tower's launch, some Mecca visitors are critical of how it will affect the ambiance of the Prophet Muhammad's birthplace. The complex is built on the land once occupied by an Ottoman fortress.
"I think they are trying to do a lot of luxurious development around the Grand Mosque which is taking away from the spiritual atmosphere of the place, making it more modern," said Lina Edris, a frequent visitor to Mecca.
"The clock tower is higher than the minarets of the Grand Mosque, which will take attention away from the mosque even though it is obvious the mosque is more important," she added.

She said: 'I am proud of being the smallest girl. I love all the attention I get. I'm not scared of being small, and I don't regret being small

'I am sure there are many people in this world who are dwarfs like me.

'I'm just the same as other people. I eat like you, dream like you. I don't feel any different.'

Weighing 12lb - only 9lb more than her weight at birth, Jyoti dreams of becoming an actress.

Despite her size she insists on living as normal a life as possible in her home town of Nagpur in India - including going to the local school.

'When I first went to school everyone was so big I used to get scared but I'm okay now, I like it. I have a different desk and chair that were made for me. I'm a normal student.'

She is also like any other teenage girl. 'I have a huge collection of dresses. I like to shop for more. Everyone in my family gets things for me. I love make-up and like dressing up like beautiful models. I would like to be an actress when I grow up. My dream is to do films.'

Jyoti has already had a taste of fame in a pop video for Indian star Mika Singh.

'They asked her to appear in the video for a song on his album,' said her mother Ranjana Amge, 45.

However, Jyoti's dreams of stardom could be ruined because of fractures to both her legs that have never healed because of problems with her size.

'First I could walk, but I slipped on ice during a holiday and hurt my leg. I find it strange that my legs just don't heal. I don't like it, it causes me pain.'

Mrs Amge said: 'No-one knows why she is so small. Jyoti is small, yet cute, and we love her very much.'

People in the region of India where the family live flock to see the teenager and some even treat her as a goddess.

She receives a lot of support from her brother and two sisters. Oldest sister Archana, 25, said: 'I have been taking care of her since she was a small baby. She is so delicate and fragile.'

During her first five years of life, brave Jyoti was in and out of hospital as she constantly fell sick, but eventually she grew stronger.

The teenager's father Kishan Amge, 52, a construction worker, said: 'She makes me proud. Lots of saints and spiritual gurus come to see and bless her. They pray for her happiness and long life.'

The An-225 is quoted as having a maximum takeoff weight of over 1.3 million pounds. The FAI gives credit for a slightly lower weight of 1.12 million pounds, the record set by an An-225 in 1989 for the largest mass ever lifted by an airplane to an altitude of 6,500 ft. The An-225 was originally built to ferry the Soviet Buran space shuttle but it is now used to transport various outsize cargos. Oasis of the Seas is an Oasis-class cruise ship in the fleet of Royal Caribbean International. Just Opened In Guatemala

"This can't be real" was my first thought. Then I checked the source: The Guatemalan government. This sinkhole appeared last sunday in a street intersection of Ciudad de Guatemala. Just looking at the photo gives me vertigo.

A sinkhole is a natural depression caused by the removal of underground soil by water. Usually, it happens when the substrate is formed by limestone, carbonate rock, salt beds or any other rock that is easily eroded by water streams. The process could be slow, but sometimes the land just cracks open without notice. In this case, it happened suddenly, swallowing an entire house. The cause: Massive underground water torrents created by tropical storm Agatha.

Sinkholes' size ranges from low terrain depressions to hundred of meters. Unlike the similar sinkhole that killed two teens in 2007. At least one local newspaper is reporting one person dead, but the authorities have not confirmed it. Some neighbors claim that a whole three-story building and a house fell into the hole.

An unnamed Spanish farmer, who accidentally shot himself in the face with a shotgun five years ago, has received the first full face transplant in the world. The shot destroyed his face from his eye sockets and downwards; miraculously, however, his eyes and vision were not damaged.

Human hair appears to be a popular material fro Asian artists. After a Chinese hairdresser recreated Tiananmen Square out of human square, and made a hair sculpture of Barrack Obama, Kim Do, a Vietnamese hairdresser creates a tunic made from hair.

Material for the dress was gathered from 54 different people across Vietnam, including popular local artists like Le Dung, Thanh Lam, Hong Nhung or Ha Kieu Anh. The 1 million meters of hair were then died and sewn into a dress, using a needle. On the front side of this unusual garment, you can see the shape of a dragon, made from long brown hair.

Kim Do’s hair dress comes with a hat, also made from hair and decorated with the design of Vietnam’s Turtle Tower.

Stunning pictures of a solar corona where temperatures around Sun reach 2,000,000c

Shooting a million miles or more out into the hard, cold vacuum of space, this fiery halo is one of the wonders of the universe.

Whipped into gigantic swirls by the Sun's ferocious magnetic fields, the shell of super-hot gas is as beautiful as it is dangerous.

It's called a corona and can't normally be seen because of the brightness of the Sun, a broiling sea of hydrogen gas at 10,000c. But during a solar eclipse, the Moon blocks out the Sun and the corona is spectacularly revealed.

This extraordinary image is a montage, digitally stitched together from 38 photos taken in Mongolia in August 2008 by veteran eclipse hunter Miloslav Druckmuller.

Even though there are small pink areas resulting from over-exposure, the result is still the clearest picture yet of this extraordinary phenomenon. To understand it is to come closer to grasping the awesome power of the Sun.

This flaming ball of hydrogen and helium gas, at 865,000 miles across, is 100 times wider than the Earth, with a million times its volume. Powered by nuclear reactions in its core, it is the most majestic object in our skies.

As hot as the Sun is, the corona is 200 times hotter - more than a million degrees celsius. Why this should be is a mystery. Some believe it is the result of a form of heating called induction - the same thing that powers hi-tech cooking hobs.

As well as being very hot, the ionised gas of the corona (called plasma) has a superthin consistency. It is less than a billionth of the density of the hydrogen that makes up the main ball of the Sun.

The odd result of this is that if, by some magic, you were to touch the corona, you would freeze rather than fry.

Despite its thinness, the corona can pack a deadly punch. Occasionally, the Sun's surface erupts in a solar quake, a paroxysm of gigantic storms and flares. Sometimes these are powerful enough to eject vast blobs of corona gas into space at millions of miles per hour.

This was the view from the Marshall Islands for Mr Druckmuller where the pictures were taken. He has travelled the world chasing eclipses

In 1859, one such eruption hit the Earth square on, generating a brilliant aurora in the night sky (bright enough to wake sleeping Gold Rush miners in the Klondyke) and shorting out much of the world's nascent telegraph system.

Though solar storms can't hurt humans directly, the 1859 event was powerful enough to melt copper cables. Should such an event happen today, it would cause utter chaos and could well precipitate an economic meltdown.

Our electricity grids would be fried and phone and internet lines would be shut down.

But what's the likelihood of that happening? Unfortunately, it's impossible to say - though some scientists predict another corona eruption in the summer of 2012, when the Sun is predicted to enter a new 'manic' phase of turbulence.

In the rural Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, 50km north east of New Delhi, a woman gave birth to a baby girl with two faces and four eyes.

The 4 day old is being hailed by villagers as the reincarnation of Ganesha – a Hindu God, who is depicted as having an elephant’s head and is patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom

Her birth was welcomed with friendly cheers, claps and offerings. Her parents, who have yet to name her have said that she is a “miracle” and “a gift from god.”

Two workers of Travancore Cocotuft Ltd. have spent months creating the world`s longest doormat hand-woven from coconut coir.
The giant mat is just 1.2 meters wide and 30 mm thick, but has a length of 101.6 meters and weighs 999 kg. Impressive numbers, but the most impressive thing about this mat is that it was handmade by just two workers. They spent 111 man days, over a period of 4 months, inserting 4,70,000 coir tufts between alternate wefts of coir yarn.Although Guinness Book of Records is already considering declaring it the world`s longest hand-woven doormat, it serves a higher purpose. Cocotuft Chief Executive Officer P. 250 registered pairs of twins, the Indian village of Kodinhi, in Kerala, has six times more twins born than the world average.
Dr. Krishnan Sribiju has been studying the odd twin phenomenon in Kodhini, for the last six years and says that although 250 pairs have been registered, there may be up to 300-350 sets of twins. Villagers say an unusually high number of twins started being born three generations ago, and it’s been rising ever since.

India's wettest place 'lacks water'
Once the world's wettest place on earth, Cherrapunji (renamed Sohra in 2007) is getting up to 20% less rain every year - and is suffering water shortages.
Residents say their heavenly abode in the clouds is hotter and drier than ever before - and they blame it on global warming.
Cherrapunji - or Sohra in the local Khasi language - is located in the West Khasi Hills of India's north-eastern state of Meghalaya.
"Never were there very big forests around Cherrapunji and many of those that are there are sacred to us," says a senior member of Sohra Science Society.
"We never cut a branch in these sacred forests. So you cannot say this adverse weather change is our creation. We are affected by what's happening all over the world," he told "This hot weather and less rain here is not due to huge deforestation or massive industrialisation,We only have a cement plant near here."
People in the area say there is a water shortage now.
In 1861, Cherrapunji created a world record when 2,298cm of rain fell in just one month.
"That will never happen again, though we still get much rain during the monsoon. But earlier, we got rains here even during the winters and that is not happening any more," says Ila Manora Nongbri_(Meghalaya tourism )
When a separate state was created from the Khasi Hills in 1972, India promptly named it Meghalaya - literally "Home of the clouds" in Sanskrit and Hindi.
Mr Lyngdoh says the number of tourists is falling
Meghalaya enjoys the distinction of having two of the world's wettest places: Cherrapunji and Mawsynram, which gets about 1,200cm of rain annually.
Mawsynram is now wetter - but both places are getting less rain and Cherrapunji is drying up faster.
That may also affect tourism in the town.
"We have a thriving tourist traffic here but it is beginning to fall. Specially the number of foreign tourists is getting less and less," says Banzer Cooper Lyngdoh, an officer with Meghalaya tourism in Cherrapunji.
"Tourists come here to see the rain and clouds, so why should they come at all if it is hot and sunny?" Mr Lyngdoh asked.

Permanent Account Number (PAN) refers to a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a laminated card, by the Income Tax Department in India. It is a must to have a PANnumber for all those who file their income tax returns, because from 2005 onwards, it has been made mandatory by the Income Tax Department to quote the PAN on return of income as well as on all correspondence with any income tax authority in the country.

The Sand Hotel

The sculpture took 1,000 tonnes of sand and a team of four sculptors working 14 hours a day for seven days to build the structure on Weymouth beach, Dorset, England.
Guests can book to stay in the hotel, which includes beds made out of sand, until the rain washes it away.
The structure was created by a hotel company to celebrate a resurgence of holidaymakers flocking to the seaside.
Research by Laterooms.com predicts 37 million people will enjoy British beaches this year.
The sand hotel offers a twin and double bedroom, while the roofless structure gives guests the chance to "star-gaze" at night, the firm said.
But there are no toilet facilities and people were warned the sand "gets everywhere".
Mark Anderson, creator of the sand hotel, said: "It is the biggest sandcastle-like structure ever in the UK.
"Four of us worked hard and with the help of a JCB we got it built.
"The beds are made of sand so it can get everywhere, especially between the toes.
"But the best thing is in the morning the tide laps through the door, what a great way to wake up."
Kathy Gwinnett, of Laterooms.com, said: "It's great that British beach holidays are enjoying a renaissance and that some of the less obvious resorts, such as Weymouth and Torquay, are getting rediscovered by a younger generation."

The little girl who had eight limbs and was worshipped as a deity starts school

She was born with a unique body - eight limbs and two torsos fused at the hips.

Now Lakshmi Tatma, the Indian toddler whose plight touched the world, has grown up and started school.

Two years after a ground-breaking operation to separate her from a parasitic twin, Lakshmi is a lively and bubbly four-year-old.

She loves playing cricket with her older brother, has a tendency to boss around her newfound friends and remains firmly a daddy's girl.

'When I think of the way she was, never in a million years would Lakshmi have been able to go to school or have the life she does today,' said her mother Poonam, 26.

'All the things she's capable of now were impossible two years ago.

'I often try to think what she might be like today if she hadn't had the operation - she couldn't even sit up before and now she runs around like other children.'

Born in a dusty farming village in India's poorest state, Lakshmi was revered as a deity and worshipped from birth.

Villagers, who believed she was the reincarnation of the Hindu goddess of wealth and fertility, would seek her blessing daily and leave gifts at her bedside.

But Lakshmi's resemblance to her mythological namesake came at a terrible price. She could not walk, stand, or even sit.

The little girl was joined to a headless parasitic twin that had stopped developing in her mother's womb. Doctors were convinced she could not have survived into adulthood.

Now fully recovered from the 27-hour operation to save her, Lakshmi is almost unrecognisable from her former self.

Beneath the surface, however, lurk a series of medical problems that threaten her future and will require years of surgery.

Six months after the complex operation to remove Lakshmi's parasitic twin, doctors discovered she had developed scoliosis, or a curvature of the spine.

Without a complex operation to correct her spine doctors have warned her back will be forced into increasingly severe deformities as she grows, possibly leaving her disabled.

Separately, Lakshmi requires an operation to 'detether' her spine after it was discovered she was born with abnormal tissue connecting the spinal cord to her nervous system.

In a further operation orthopaedic surgeons must perform a procedure to 'close her hips', which are set too far apart and result in an unusual 'gaited' walk.

Finally, plastic surgeons will need to find a way to create buttocks for Lakshmi, which did not form in the womb because of the unique way she was connected to her parasitic twin. In the same operation surgeons will have to fix related problems with her bladder and intestines.

'Lakshmi has come such a long, long way but we're very scared for the future,' said her mother Poonam.

Born to impoverished parents in the frequently lawless state of Bihar, in India's volatile northeast, Lakshmi faced an uncertain future until a wealthy doctor heard of her plight and offered to operate on her for free.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sharan Patil, owner of the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore 2,000 miles south, travelled to Lakshmi's remote village in 2007 to meet the child and offer her parents the chance of a lifetime.

After more than a month planning the separation, Dr Patil's team attempted the first operation of its kind in the world.

Hundreds of journalists camped outside the hospital throughout the 27-hour surgery.

Lakshmi's fame, having spread from her tiny village around the world, prompted Sucheta Kriplani Shiksha Niketan (SKSN), a charitable school looking after disabled children in the desert state of Rajasthan, to offer her parents a place to live and the chance of an education for Lakshmi and her brother Mithilesh.

Dr Bhairoon Singh Bhati, the secretary of SKSN, said: 'Lakshmi is a special case for us. She's a very challenging case because you can never tell from her medical history when she might next fall ill.

'Her scoliosis is an example of the problems Lakshmi faces because we had no way of knowing she would develop a curvature of the spine.

'Similarly, despite all the problems she still faces we have no way of knowing what may crop up in the future.

'The biggest difficulty caring for Lakshmi is that she's a unique case - there's never been a child like her before so we have nothing to refer back to.'

Under Dr Bhati's guidance Lakshmi has started school, joining her elder brother as the only members of their family to ever receive an education.

Embedded systems vary in the amount of change that can happen to them after production. An MP3 player, for example, is an embedded computer, but can have quite a bit of interaction and changes made to it. It may allow the user to alter the colors used, change the clock, update firmware, and change the songs or playlists in memory. An embedded computer within a traffic light, to take another example, is probably quite fixed. Dinosaur eggs are found in India
Geologists in southern India say they have found hundreds of dinosaur egg clusters which could be about 65 million years old. It was a chance find discovered when a team of scientists were locating a place to excavate an ancient riverbed in the state of Tamil Nadu. As they dug deeper they saw layers of what looked like fossilised eggs. The photos and samples were then sent to various universities who confirmed that they were dinosaur eggs. Each egg is the size of a football - about 13 to 23cm in diameter, lying buried in sandy nests. The leader of the team, MU Ramkumar, told the BBC the finding is significant and could help to unravel the mystery about the extinction of dinosaurs.
'Infertile'
"The important finding is that these eggs have been found in different layers that means the dinosaurs came to the place over and over year after year," he said. "The second important thing is that we have got volcanic ash deposits on the eggs which suggests that volcanic activity could have caused their extinction. "The other thing we have found is that all these eggs are unhatched and infertile. So what made the eggs infertile? We need to carry out further studies to learn more from the findings." Scientists believe the eggs belong to the docile leaf-eating Sauropod branch of dinosaurs. Their remains have been dug up on every continent, including Antarctica. Palaeontologists use the term to describe large, four-legged, plant-eating dinosaurs with bulky bodies, long necks and tails and tiny heads with relatively small brains. Dr Ramkumar and his team have called on the central and state governments to protect what they are calling a "Jurassic treasure trove". The presence of dinosaur eggs was first recorded in the same district by a British geologist in the 1860s. In the 1990s a dinosaur egg was found in a government-owned factory in the state.

EMBRIO _ One-Wheeled Motorcycle

The EMBRIO Advanced Concept is a one-wheeled recreational and commuting vehicle for the year 2025, designed by the Canadian company Bombardier Recreational Products. Although the riding position is similar to that of a motorcycle, the vehicle uses sensors and gyroscopes to balance up to two passengers on a large single wheel whilst driving. Although the vehicle will also remain stable when motionless, with two small front wheels deployed at speeds below 20 kilometres per hour (12.5 mph). To move forward, the rider activates a trigger on the left handlebar. At a speed of 20 kilometres per hour (12.5 mph) the front wheels or “landing gear” retracts so the rider is balancing on the large single wheel. To turn the rider leans to the left or right. The brake is activated by a trigger on the right handlebar. Fuel cells running on hydrogen provide electricity for the electric motor which drives the single wheel.

E-Waste in Guiyu Guiyu is the largest electronic waste (e-waste) site on earth, according to wikipedia. Since late 1980s a lot of e-waste from overseas has been imported to China and dismantled at Guiyu. The state-run newspaper the Peoples Daily said in 2006 that Guiyus more than 5,500 e-waste business employed over 30,000 people. According to the local goverment Web site, city businesses process 1,5 million tons of e-waste a year, pulling in $75 million in revenue. As much as 80 percent of it comes from overseas. It's as much as 10 times cheaper to export the waste to developing countries for the United States, as safety rules skyrocket domestic disposal costs, says the U.S. Enviromental Protection Agency. Americans scrap 400 million electronic products per year, and generated 2.6 million tons of e-waste in 2005.
